Connaught Place traders advised shops, offices and restaurants to shut on Saturday
The New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) circulated a precautionary closure advisory on Friday, 9 October, ahead of a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday. The association cited risks to people and property. This was a traders’ advisory: not a citywide government order closing every shop.
Saturday morning reporting described Connaught Place as largely deserted while security personnel occupied the surrounding roads; this supports substantial disruption, but not a verified shop-by-shop closure count.
Local relevance: Visitors should not assume that CP restaurants, stores or offices followed normal Saturday hours. Calling a specific business is safer than relying on ordinary opening hours.

Barricades and police deployments changed access around CP and Sansad Marg
According to on-the-ground reporting published early Saturday afternoon, most approaches around Sansad Marg, Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar had barricades by 9 a.m. Road diversions, checks and detention operations affected movement. Cab bookings and auto journeys towards CP were also disrupted.
Local relevance: Access from Patel Nagar, Barakhamba Road and nearby corridors may be slower or require an alternative route.

City trader group warns festival-season sales are being hit
The Chamber of Trade and Industry called for large protests to be moved away from commercial hubs during the festival period. It claimed that market business had fallen by around 70% over the previous three days; that figure is the association’s estimate, not independently verified retail sales data.
Local relevance: CP businesses face disruption at the start of a significant seasonal shopping period.
